Adoptive Parent Psychological Evaluation

One of the greatest gifts is a child's embrace. A child's love and the simple act of a hug is every parent's dream.

Our adoptive parent psychological evaluation process is easy and convenient for prospective adoptive parents. You have enough paperwork to complete and things to do to get ready to bring your child home. We understand and have designed our psychological evaluation service to be easy, flexible and affordable. Our staff psychologist will review your homestudy, score a standard written psychological test and interview each parent.

With your standard evaluation service, adoptive parents receive 2 notarized evaluation letters, 2 notarized copies of the doctor's license and 2 apostilles. This package allows the adoptive parent or adoption agency to choose whether to apostille the evaluation letters together with the doctor's license or have one each of the letter and doctor's license apostilled separately. If additional apostilles are needed, they are easy to order. If you choose expedited service, you will receive an upgrade to shipping and priority scheduling for your interview.

It takes about three weeks to complete the entire process and have the apostilled evaluations sent to you or your agency. For families needing to complete their evaluation quickly, expedited service and overnight shipping via the US Postal Service or FedEx is available.

FAQ:

Q: Are your evaluations acceptable in the court? Our agency says the psychological evaluation needs to be done by a licensed Dr.

A: Our staff psychologist, Dr. Hunter, is licensed by the State of Washington as a psychologist. He has Doctoral degrees in both Education and Psychology and has been a clinical psychologist in private practice for over a decade. Dr. Hunter has never had an adoptive parent psychological evaluation rejected from any court for any reason.

Q: I do not live in Washington State. Can I still use Dr. Hunter for my psychological evaluation?

A: There is no provision in Washington law that restricts Dr. Hunter from providing services to residents of other states or even other countries. Many courts have accepted Dr. Hunter's evaluations for families living outside of Washington.

Q: We were told to get a notarized and apostilled copy of the doctor's license, can you get this for us?

A: The standard psychological evaluation package includes 2 notarized copies of the doctor's license, 2 evaluation letters and 2 apostilles. You can choose how you wish the documents to be apostilled (letter and license together or 1 on letter and 1 on license), or order additional apostilles and have all documents done separately.

Q: Is Dr. Hunter experienced in working with adoptive families?

A: Dr. Hunter has a wide range of experience working with adoptive and foster families and children in both educational settings and as a clinical psychologist in private practice.

Q: How long does it take to get our evaluations back?

A: It takes approximately 3-4 weeks from the time we receive your order and payment until your completed psychological evaluations, with apostilles, are sent to you. It can take longer if there are delays in getting apostilles processed or if there is a delay in receiving your tests or scheduling your interview. Note that it normally takes 5-7 days for us to receive your apostilles from the time we send them to the Secretary of State's office.

Q: We need our psychological evaluations sooner than that, can we get them done faster?

A: If you order our expedited service, you will have priority in scheduling your interview and receive your tests and evaluations by express mail (overnight to most locations) by default. This level of service generally saves about 1 week of time.

Q: I still need to get it done faster, is there any way of speeding this up more?

A: Please call if you need your evaluation completed and in your hands in less than 2 1/2 weeks. We will be glad to discuss with you options that will help us to get your psychological evaluation done ASAP.

Q: How can I pay for my evaluation? Do I have to mail you a check?

A: You may pay by personal or bank check or money order by mail. We do offer you the option of paying via PayPal. PayPal is a secure, online payment option that allows you to pay by credit card, electronic check or funds transfer from your PayPal account. Please note that we charge $5 to cover the transaction fees PayPal charges to us to receive your payment.

Q: Can I pay with a credit card?

A: You may pay by credit card by using our optional PayPal payment option. Please note that we charge $5 to cover the transaction fees PayPal charges to us to receive your payment.

Q: What is this written test and when do I take it?

A: The test is a 4 page 160 question, forced answer test (similar to a true/false test). Most people find it takes about 10-20 minutes to complete the test. We will send you your test after we receive your order packet and payment. You will take the test and send it back to our office to be scored in order to have your interview scheduled.

Q: How soon can I do my interview?

A: It normally takes 2-3 days for Dr. Hunter's office to contact you to schedule your interview after we receive your tests. Your actual interview day and time is typically 7-10 days or longer after we receive your tests. For adoptive parents ordering expedited service, your interview date is typically 1-7 days following receipt of your tests. Please be aware that Dr. Hunter may not available on many holidays or holiday weekends to complete interviews and that there may be delays during these time periods.

Q: When time will my interview be? I have to be at work during the day and can't make personal calls.

A: After we have received your written test, Dr. Hunter's office will call you to schedule an interview time that will work for you. Interviews can be scheduled most days, evenings or weekends to meet your availability. You will be expected to call Dr. Hunter at your scheduled interview time at the number provided to you for that purpose.

Q: What happens if I need to change my interview time or I miss my interview?

A: Please notify  Dr. Hunter's office AND A Child's Embrace as soon as you can if you know you will need to change your interview time. If you miss your scheduled interview, we will reschedule once at no additional charge. If miss your scheduled appointment a second time without sufficient notice, you will be billed by Dr. Hunter's office for a missed appointment as per their policies. If, due to an emergency or other circumstances Dr. Hunter is not available for your scheduled interview, Dr. Hunter's office or A Child's Embrace will attempt to notify you as soon as we can and your interview will be re-scheduled on a priority basis.

Q: How long will my interview take?

A: Dr. Hunter schedules up to 1 hour of time for your interview. Most interviews take 30-45 minutes and if married, both parents must be available at the same time. If your interview takes more than 1 hour, Dr. Hunter may bill you for additional time at his normal billing rate.
